Barbara K. Schwartz

AMERICAN PLACES AND SPACES

I have enormous energy when I am at work in the studio and my process provides me with a sense of disequilibrium which I find exciting. Handling a variety of materials gives me great pleasure. Experimentation with different surfaces has revealed layers of comprehension beyond visual problem solving.

Collage and collected materials can enhance a work. They create painterly and narrative elements. They have all the properties of a painted mark, color, line, texture and weight. In addition, they have dimension which creates a shadow…or is it a brush stroke?

My interests in art, psychology and current events have shaped my views of the present. I believe that art is a real non-linear language, therefore I would like my work to “speak “ to the viewer. Even more, I would like people who see my works to be” touched” by them.
